About Sheff's Kiz
Sheff's Kiz is Sheffield's Urban Kiz community: weekly classes, socials, and the occasional workshop. We started it so there was a regular, local floor — not a one-off visiting night.
Absolute beginners are welcome. You do not need a partner, and you do not need to already know kizomba. We rotate in class, keep the intro short on socials, and look after the room so it stays sociable rather than showy.
What is Urban Kiz?
Urban Kiz is a partner dance that grew out of kizomba, danced to urban and electronic music as much as traditional tracks. It is close, grounded, and musical — more night out than ballroom. If you can walk in time, you can start.

Beth
Beth is a Legend, she was the one who helped start it all, by telling James to start a community! I fell in love with Urban Kiz at a festival in Istanbul 3 years ago — the music drew me in before I even knew what I was dancing! Since then, I’ve been to over 40 festivals, clocked up countless sleep-deprived hours on the dance floor, and, most importantly, met some incredibly kind people along the way. I’ve experienced the frustration of wanting to progress faster and the joy of finally mastering a new skill. I’m still learning and growing, and I’m so happy to share the joy, playfulness and passion of Urban Kiz with you. Welcome to the community! ❤️

Isabelle
After being hooked by kizomba for 5 years, after being very dance deprived during the covid period, I joined Michael and Courtney's classes and fell in love with urbankiz, it's endless possibilities, creativity, insane musicality and constant evolution. Nearly 3 years after starting my urbankiz journey, I can say it has become a huge part of my life and has allowed me to develop and express myself more as a dancer, and push myself out of my comfort zone : whether it be coming 3rd in my first ever urbankiz competition (couple category) or jumping on the other side of the fence to start my teaching journey alongside the best partner possible, Michael Hope. Enjoying being part of an amazing dance community and grateful to be able to share this passion and helping to grow the urbankiz scene.
